What Is The History Of Battery Park

If you have been to New York City and ventured to Times Square, you may have noticed “The Battery” in the distance. This is actually an abandoned military site that exists right in the heart of the city and was once the location of a military installation that was operational from 1854 until 1954.

The site was named after the Battery Place in Lower Manhattan, which was the site of a Revolutionary War fortification.

Those familiar with this park may have heard it referred to as “Sapper’s Park” or “Battery Place” and to get an idea of just how hidden it really is, a Google search for nearby attractions will indicate that there is no sign for “the Battery” anywhere in the surrounding vicinity.
