Luckily for you, there is one place that you need to visit to continue exploring this edge of New York City and that place of course is the Edge Observation Deck, also known as EOD.
How Do I Get From Times Square To The Edge Observation Deck

If you are visiting from Times Square, you want to reach the Edge Observation Deck via the subway and the best way to do this is by taking the 7 train and get off at 34th Street/Hudson Yards. When you get off at this stop, you’ll be at the Subway Museum, just a few blocks from the Subway Terminal.
So, head towards the subway station from Times Square which should only take around 5 minutes depending on your fitness levels. At the station, head to the platform and wait for the 7 train to 34th Street/Hudson Yards. The trip only takes around 2-3 minutes and when you get off, it’s about a 10 minute walk to The Edge at 30 Hudson Yards.
Plan Your Visit From Times Square To The Edge Observation Deck
It’s a good idea to plan your visit to Times Square and the Edge Observation Deck. When you visit, you want to maximize your time and come with a plan for what you want to see. If you have to rush, it will be hard for you to really absorb what you are seeing.
For your visit to the Times Square EOD, you want to come with a plan of what you want to do. You want to avoid rushing through and missing out on one aspect of Times Square. This is your chance to see the “no man’s land” of New York City.

Where Is The Edge Observation Deck
Now you are in Chinatown, you need to head to the nearest subway station. That station is 9th Street. You can get there via the 1 train, or you can take the 2, 3 or 4 train to the 9th Street subway station. Once you are at the 9th Street subway station, head towards the big, red sign that reads Chinatown.
You need to head down this street, to where the street opens onto Canal Street. Here, you’ll find the entrance to the Chinatown Visitor Center. You’ll have to pay to enter the Chinatown Visitor Center, but you won’t need to pay anywhere else.
At the entrance, you’ll get a free map that shows you the best way to walk to the Edge Observation Deck.
Walk From Times Square To The Edge Observation Deck
If you want to visit the Edge Observation Deck by foot, you have three options: you can walk between Times Square and the edge of New York City, you can walk between the Hudson River and the edge of New York City, or you can walk between the East Side and the West Side of New York City.
Depending on how long it takes you to walk between Times Square and the edge of New York City, you can choose which route is the easiest for you. Depending on where you are walking from, Times Square to the edge of New York City, you can expect the walk to take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
During this time, you’ll pass by the Statue of Liberty, you’ll see the Manhattan Bridge, you’ll see the United Nations, you’ll see the Empire State Building, and you’ll see the New York City skyline.
When you’re walking from the Hudson River or from the East Side to the West Side of New York City, you can expect the walk to take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
During this time, you’ll pass by the New York City-New Jersey border, you’ll see the Jersey Shore, and you’ll see the Statue of Liberty.
From Times Square To The Edge Observation Deck By Car Or Taxi
While it would be ideal to visit the Edge Observation Deck by foot, the best choice for visitors is to take a car or taxi from Times Square to the EOD and the journey is only a few miles so is relatively easy to navigate.
The only thing that you need to plan for is traffic. The best time to visit is around 9 a.m when traffic is relatively light or you can also visit the Edge Observation Deck during the later part of the day (5-7 p.m.) when traffic is a little lighter.
If you’re visiting from the suburbs of New York City, the trip from your home to the EOD will take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on traffic.
From Times Square To The Edge Observation Deck By Bike
If you want to visit the EOD on a bike, you can easily do so. The distance between Times Square and the edge of New York City is only a few miles and has very little traffic. The best time to bike between Times Square and EOD is during the late afternoon and early evening when traffic is at its lightest.
The trip by bike between Times Square and EOD is around 25-30 minutes depending on how fast you ride. If you’re visiting from the suburbs, biking from Times Square to the EOD is a great choice. The trip will only take around 20 minutes.
If you want to bike between Times Square and the EOD, you’ll need to bring a bike that can handle some of New York City’s potholes and cobblestones.
A bike that’s in good condition with a decent suspension, should get you to the EOD without any problems although remember, biking between Times Square and the Edge Observation Deck is easy, it’s best to do it in the later part of the day if possible when traffic is a little lighter.
